How to Write a Recommendation Letter

To Whom It May Concern

It is a true pleasure for me to write this letter of recommendation for Mr. X, who was my student in Genetics/Biotechnology/Biology/Botany etc. etc. Mr. X is, without question, one of the four or five most outstanding students I have taught at *** (University name) of teaching.

Mr. X entered *** (University name) in 30 March 2010/11/12 etc.  at the young age of 18/19/20, a precocious high school graduate. Mr. X quickly learned to manage his time, work in group situations under strict deadlines, and to recognize the importance of a strong work ethic, persistence, and intellectual integrity. Mr. X is a careful and creative thinker with an eye for details and a devotion to logic, which serves his well both in the sciences and outside them. He has the terrific ability to draw on his own experience and observations to develop thoughtful opinions on a variety of issues. His regular contributions to fullclass discussions provided insight both for his peers and for me as an instructor. He successfully completed his BS Agricultrue/Fisheries/Economics/Genetics/Biotechnology/Biology/Botany etc. program on 16th April, 2014/15/16. He obtained CGPA: 3.40/3.50/3.90 etc.  out of 4:00

Mr. X was also invaluable in small-group interaction with his peers. Without my asking, he took on the responsibility of helping his classmates consolidate vast amounts of information into cohiment sets of ideas, and he quickly became a study group leader. In addition, Mr. X was very generous with his time and energies.

Mr. X is not only an excellent student, but he is also personally delightful. He is as comfortable with himself as he is engaging, pleasant, and humorous. As I got to know Mr. X over the BS (Honors), I became only more impressed by the wide range of his abilities and by his modesty about them. He worked as a research assistant in the project entitled “***” funded by University Grant Commission, Bangladesh, starting from July 2014/15/16 etc. to December, 2014/15/16 etc.. He is an accomplished scientist, which he does with a passion rare in undergraduates.

I recommend Mr. X to any job program with absolute confidence. He has made me proud, as his teacher, and I am sure will continue to do so as he grows in your program and beyond. Thank you for the opportunity of correspondence.

Sincerely,

(Signature with date)

(Dr. Y )
